Report: Colts grant Jonathan Taylor permission to seek trade
The Indianapolis Colts gave running back Jonathan Taylor permission to seek a trade, sources told NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Conversations to find a landing spot are reportedly ongoing.
Indianapolis is looking for a first-round selection or an equivalent package of picks, a source told ESPN's Stephen Holder.
Taylor is in the last year of his rookie contract, which carries a cap hit of approximately $5.1 million, according to Over the Cap. The Colts selected him with the No. 41 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
The 24-year-old is coming off an ankle injury that limited him to just 11 games in 2022. He recorded 861 yards and four touchdowns on the ground and also hauled in 28 receptions for 143 yards last season.
Taylor has been publicly disgruntled with the Colts over his lack of a contract extension. His agent, Malki Kawa, accused owner Jim Irsay of "bad faith" for not extending Taylor in July.
Irsay had criticized running backs' demands for more lucrative contracts when Las Vegas Raiders runner Josh Jacobs, New York Giants back Saquon Barkley, and Dallas Cowboys rushing threat Tony Pollard each failed to receive long-term deals after being franchise tagged.
Irsay later said his post wasn't targeted at Taylor, according to Holder.
Taylor produced a stellar 2021 campaign, leading the league in carries (332), rushing yards (1,811), rushing touchdowns (18), yards from scrimmage (2,171), and scrimmage touchdowns (20) en route to being named a first-team All-Pro.
The Wisconsin product has 4,643 scrimmage yards and 36 total touchdowns in 43 career games.
