Report: Fury-Usyk title bout has 2-way rematch clause
Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk could meet in the ring twice.
The deal for their undisputed heavyweight title fight contains a two-way rematch clause the loser can trigger afterward, sources told ESPN's Mike Coppinger.
Fury and Usyk are reportedly expected to meet on Dec. 23, but the tilt could be pushed to January, pending the result of Fury's Oct. 28 non-title bout against former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou. Fury-Usyk will take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the same location hosting Fury-Ngannou.
All four of boxing's major heavyweight titles - Fury's WBC crown and Usyk's WBA, WBO, and IBF belts - will be on the line.
If Fury and Usyk meet in an immediate rematch, it won't be an undisputed title fight. The IBF said last week that the Fury-Usyk winner must make a mandatory title defense immediately following that bout, according to Coppinger. If the winner opts for a rematch instead, Filip Hrgovic and the next available contender will vie for the vacant IBF title.
Fury, one of the sport's biggest stars, is coming off a TKO win over Derek Chisora last December. Usyk controversially knocked out Daniel Dubois in the ninth round in August. Fury and Usyk are both undefeated at 33-0-1 and 21-0, respectively.
