Boston forces Game 5 of PWHL final on Muller's 2OT winner

Alina Muller scored with 1:24 remaining in double overtime as Boston's PWHL squad forced a winner-take-all Game 5 with a 1-0 victory over Minnesota in the Walter Cup Final on Sunday night.

Minnesota's Sophie Jacques appeared to end it with 2:34 left in double overtime, but the goal was reviewed and overturned.

"After that overturned goal, I knew we were going to get (the winner)," Muller told TSN's Raegan Subban postgame.

Both teams fired 33 shots on goal in the marathon. Boston goaltender Aerin Frankel earned the shutout, while Minnesota netminder Nicole Hensley stopped everything but the winner.

Boston prevailed despite going 0-for-3 on the power play. Minnesota failed to capitalize on five such opportunities.

"We battled together, and now we bring it home, and we're going to finish it at home," Muller said.

The third overall pick in the inaugural PWHL Draft had some takeaways from Sunday's win.

"We can outskate them, we can outplay them, we just have to keep going and stick to our game plan," Muller added.

Boston split the first two tilts in the series on home ice, winning Game 1 by a 4-3 margin before dropping the following contest 3-0. Minnesota then split the next two at home, taking Game 3 by a 4-1 score.

Sunday's matchup was the first of the series to go beyond regulation. Boston won the longest game in PWHL history on May 11, defeating Montreal 2-1 in triple overtime of Game 2 in the semifinals. Boston ultimately swept that series, upsetting the No. 2-ranked club.

Game 5 is scheduled for Wednesday night at 7 p.m. ET in Boston.
