Rahm plans to play World Tour events to stay Ryder Cup-eligible
LIV Golf's Jon Rahm intends to play three DP World Tour events before the end of the season to maintain eligibility for the 2025 Ryder Cup.
Players are required to enter four non-major DP World Tour events to be able to play in the event. The Olympics, where Rahm collapsed late in the final round to miss the podium, counted as one of the four.
Rahm hopes to play at the Spanish Open, which begins Sept. 26, but he's uncertain if he'll be approved by the DP World Tour. The Spaniard has refused to pay DP World Tour fines for playing in LIV.
"We entered a long time ago," Rahm said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Mark Schlabach. "Whether they let me play or not is a different thing. I'm not a big fan of the fines. I think I've been outspoken about that. I don't intend to pay the fines, and we keep trying to have a discussion with them about how we can make this happen."
Rahm believes it's his responsibility to play at home in Spain.
"I've said many times, I don't go to the Spanish Open for the glory or anything else," Rahm said. "I think it's my duty to Spanish golf to be there, and I also want to play (the Andalucia Masters) in Sotogrande. At that point, it would almost be doing not only me but Spanish golf a disservice by not letting me play."
In addition to the Spanish Open and Andalucia Masters, Rahm plans to play the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland to complete his Ryder Cup eligibility.
Rahm has represented Europe at the Ryder Cup three times in 2018, 2021, and 2023. The 2025 event takes place at Bethpage Black in New York.
The 2023 Masters winner will play for LIV's individual championship and an $18-million prize starting Friday. Rahm concludes the LIV campaign on Sept. 22 in Dallas for the team championship.
