Report: Pelicans' Murphy targeting Monday for season debut
New Orleans Pelicans wing Trey Murphy III is eyeing Monday against the Brooklyn Nets for his potential return to the lineup, according to NBA Insider Chris Haynes.
The Virginia product injured his hamstring during training camp and has not yet played in the 2024-25 campaign.
Murphy, 24, inked his rookie-scale extension worth $112 million over four years during the offseason. He averaged a career-best 14.8 points to go along with 4.9 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 38% from deep in 2023-24.
New Orleans is off to a 3-7 start and has dealt with a multitude of injuries. The Pelicans have played ruled out Dejounte Murray (hand), CJ McCollum (adductor), Herbert Jones (shoulder), and Jordan Hawkins (back) for multiple weeks. All-Star forward Zion Williamson missed Friday's loss to the Orlando Magic with a hamstring issue.
