DeVonta Smith: Eagles not 'on the same page' in passing game

The Philadelphia Eagles are one of the NFL's hottest teams and have already clinched a playoff spot, but their top two wide receivers aren't happy with the team's stagnating passing game.

DeVonta Smith has an idea of what it will take to fix the issue.

"Being on the same page," Smith said, according to ESPN's Tim McManus. "Thinking the same. Seeing the right signals. Just going out there and making it work."

A.J. Brown didn't hesitate after being asked what needs to improve for the team offensively moving forward.

"Passing," said Brown, who was seen slamming his helmet on the sideline during Sunday's 22-16 win over the 3-10 Carolina Panthers, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94WIP.com.

Brown and Smith - who form one of football's best wideout duos - each had four catches against Carolina. The former finished the day with 43 receiving yards, while the latter posted 37 yards and one touchdown.

Quarterback Jalen Hurts has thrown fewer than 200 passing yards in each of the last three games, including 108 against the Panthers. Hurts completed 14 of 21 pass attempts with two touchdowns and no interceptions Sunday.

"(The Panthers) did a good job; I think we did a bad job," Hurts said postgame, per McManus. "That starts with me, how I execute. ... I yearn for better synchronization, for a more complementary style of ball."

He added, "Some things don't get you until it gets you. And there's definitely been some urgency there, trying to figure it out."

Hurts is averaging 200 passing yards per game in 2024, his lowest since he became the team's full-time starter in 2021. Hurts and Co. have stood out on the ground, though, as the signal-caller has rushed for 544 yards and 13 touchdowns this year.

Running back Saquon Barkley has established himself as an MVP candidate in his first season in Philly, rushing for 1,623 yards and 11 touchdowns to go along with 29 receptions for 267 yards and two scores.

The 11-2 Eagles host the Pittsburgh Steelers next week.
