Report: Mahomes suffers high ankle sprain in win over Browns
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes injured his ankle in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 21-7 win over the Cleveland Browns.
Mahomes is dealing with a high ankle sprain and will likely be considered week-to-week ahead of Saturday's game against the Houston Texans, a source told Pro Football Talk.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid confirmed postgame that Mahomes didn't fracture his foot.
"It's not broken, it's sore," Reid said, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Mahomes believes he could've returned against the Browns despite the injury.
"It's hard to say right now," Mahomes said of his injury, according to McKenzie Nelson of KSHB 41. "... Usually, it's kind of the day after that we get a good sense of it, but I feel like I could've finished the game in different circumstances. But the smart decision ... was to put Carson (Wentz) in. He's played a lot of football, and he finished the game well."
Mahomes was visibly in pain after being hit by multiple Browns defenders while attempting a fourth-down pass late in the fourth quarter. The Super Bowl MVP limped off the field and had both of his ankles taped on the sideline. The Chiefs then put Wentz at QB with 5:23 left in the matchup and Mahomes didn't return after being listed as questionable.

Mahomes was seen leaving the locker room postgame on a cart to take him for further examination.

Mahomes wasn't sacked against the Browns but took 12 hits in the matchup. He completed 19 of 38 pass attempts for 159 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.
Mahomes hasn't missed a game because of injury since the 2019 season. The 29-year-old also dealt with an ankle issue during the postseason in January 2023 but managed to play through it and led the Chiefs to a Super Bowl LVII victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.
Kansas City signed Wentz in April to serve as Mahomes' backup. The 31-year-old, who has 93 NFL starts under his belt, attempted his first two passes of the season in his relief appearance versus Cleveland.
The 13-1 Chiefs are the AFC's No. 1 seed and have already clinched the AFC West title. After Saturday's matchup against Houston, Kansas City has a short turnaround for a Wednesday tilt on Christmas Day versus the Pittsburgh Steelers.
