World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler withdrew from The American Express as he continues to recover from a hand injury, he announced on Instagram.
Scheffler punctured the palm of his right hand with broken glass while preparing dinner on Christmas Day. He needed surgery to remove small glass fragments from his hand.
The American Express takes place in La Quinta, California from Jan. 16-19.
It's the second tournament Scheffler has withdrawn from since the injury. He also missed The Sentry in Hawaii.
The 28-year-old hopes to start his season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, which begins Jan. 30.
Scheffler won seven TOUR events last campaign and is the reigning FedEx Cup champion.
