Report: Indiana's Woodson considering stepping down, retiring
Indiana head coach Mike Woodson has lost the support of the Hoosiers' high-level boosters and is contemplating retirement, sources told The Field of 68's Jeff Goodman on Thursday.
The terms of his exit are unclear, but the plan would be for Woodson to finish out the season. If he were to be fired, Woodson would be owed $8 million, Goodman reports.
The Hoosiers are tied for 10th in the Big Ten and have lost six of their last seven games. They will likely miss their second consecutive NCAA Tournament barring a miraculous Big Ten Tournament run.
Woodson overhauled his roster this offseason as Indiana possessed one of the nation's largest NIL budgets. The Hoosiers brought in top transfers Oumar Ballo from Arizona, Kanaan Carlyle from Stanford, and Myles Rice from Washington State.
Indiana's offense and defense are both ranked outside of KenPom's top 50.
Woodson's been at the helm of the Indiana program since the 2021-22 season when he took over from Archie Miller. The 66-year-old previously coached the Atlanta Hawks and New York Knicks. His best season came in 2022-21 when Indiana went 23-12 overall and finished second in the Big Ten.
Indiana will host No. 24 Michigan at Assembly Hall on Saturday.
