Magic's Suggs out indefinitely after knee surgery
Orlando Magic guard Jalen Suggs will be out indefinitely after undergoing arthroscopic surgery to remove a cartilage fragment in his left knee, the team announced Sunday.
Suggs' return to the court will depend on how his body responds to treatment and rehab.
Suggs has missed the past 14 games and suffered the knee injury while preparing to return from a quad ailment. He missed an additional 10 contests earlier in the campaign due to a back issue.
Suggs was averaging a career-high 16.2 points, four boards, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals across 35 appearances this season. He earned his first NBA All-Defensive second-team nod the previous campaign.
The Magic selected Suggs with the No. 5 overall pick in 2021 and inked him to a five–year, $150.5-million extension last October.
Orlando has battled injuries to its core players all season. Paolo Banchero, Franz Wagner, and Suggs have played just six games and 97 minutes together.
The Magic sit eighth in the East with a 29-32 record entering Sunday's play.
