Report: Cowboys interested in Cooper reunion
The Dallas Cowboys are interested in reuniting with wide receiver Amari Cooper, a source told Nick Harris of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram.
Cooper remains unsigned after finishing the 2024 season with the Buffalo Bills. The 30-year-old caught 44 passes for 547 yards and four touchdowns with the Cleveland Browns (six games) and Bills (eight appearances) last year.
Cooper played for the Cowboys from 2018-21, posting 292 receptions, 3,893 yards, and 27 touchdowns before Dallas traded him to Cleveland in 2022. The veteran wideout topped 1,000 yards in each of his first two seasons with the Browns.
The Cowboys have been looking to bolster their wide receiver position, which lacks star power and depth behind CeeDee Lamb. However, Dallas didn't select any receivers in last week's NFL draft. The team would've taken wideout Tetairoa McMillan if he'd been available at No. 12 overall, sources told ESPN's Todd Archer. McMillan went to the Carolina Panthers eighth overall, and Dallas chose offensive lineman Tyler Booker instead.
The Cowboys also reportedly had discussions with an AFC North team regarding a potential trade for a veteran pass-catcher. It's unclear which wideout Dallas targeted, but the Pittsburgh Steelers apparently received trade calls about wideout George Pickens before the draft. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said last week that he was working on potential "substantive" trades.
In addition to Lamb, Dallas' WR depth chart features Jonathan Mingo, Jalen Tolbert, and KaVontae Turpin, among others.
