Report: Flames, Golden Knights discussed Andersson trade
The Calgary Flames and Vegas Golden Knights have held numerous discussions in the past week about a trade involving defenseman Rasmus Andersson, reports The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun.
The Ottawa Senators, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Los Angeles Kings have also shown interest in the right-shot defenseman, but Vegas is Andersson's preferred destination, sources told LeBrun.
The 28-year-old is entering the final year of his contract with a $4.55-million cap hit. His deal only includes a six-team no-trade list, but the Flames could maximize a return if Andersson signs an extension as part of a trade. He's eligible to sign a new deal on Tuesday.
Andersson has spent his entire nine-year career with the Flames. He tallied 31 points and 196 blocks in 81 games while averaging 23:59 per contest last season. The 6-foot-1 defender notched a career-high 50 points back in 2021-22.
MacKenzie Weegar, Daniil Miromanov, Brayden Pachal, and top prospect Zayne Parekh would be among Calgary's remaining right-shot defensemen if the team traded Andersson.
The Golden Knights are in the market for a right-shot blue-liner with Alex Pietrangelo's playing career likely over.
