Report: Heat, Kings among teams interested in Morant
The Miami Heat and Sacramento Kings are among multiple teams interested in acquiring Memphis Grizzlies guard Ja Morant, ESPN's Shams Charania reports.
Rival executives told Charania that the Grizzlies are seeking young players and draft picks in exchange for the two-time All-Star.
Morant's relationship with first-year head coach Tuomas Iisalo has reportedly turned sour. Memphis suspended the former No. 2 overall pick for one contest last December after he apparently responded to Iisalo in a dismissive and inappropriate manner during a postgame exchange.
However, Morant remains irked by the brief ban, feeling alienated after teammates were told to leave him alone to address his issues, sources told ESPN's Michael C. Wright.
The Murray State product has informed players around the league and former coaches that he isn't playing for Memphis anymore, adds Wright.
Morant's driving ability and playmaking could inject some life into the Heat's 22nd-ranked offense. He'd be a clear upgrade over incumbent point guard Davion Mitchell.
The Kings could also benefit from his skill set as they sit 29th in offensive efficiency.
Morant is under contract through 2027-28 and would give Sacramento a long-term solution at the point. Russell Westbrook is currently serving as the team's starting floor general.
Morant is averaging 19 points, 7.6 assists, 3.2 boards, and one steal across 18 appearances this season.
