Kuwait Football Association threatened with ban for government interference
The Kuwait Football Association is facing a third ban due to government interference.
FIFA has given the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) until Oct. 15 to prevent the implementation of a new set of sports laws, according to Reuters. FIFA believes the laws, set to come into effect Oct. 27, threaten the KFA's independence.
The KFA has been slapped with two bans for government interference in 2007 and 2008.
The world football governing body has long preached the importance of separating government from the affairs of sport, and has been concerned about former Kuwaiti oil minister Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah's role in the KFA.
Sheikh Ahman, who was appointed the KFA's honourary president, also has significant influence in the Asian Football Confederation.
