DFS: Counterattack - Friday's Top Contrarian Plays

Christopher Hanewinckel / USA TODAY Sports

Here are the top contrarian DFS options for Friday, November 6:

C Sidney Crosby, Penguins (at Oilers)

Crosby has been a major disappointment to start the season. The former Art Ross Trophy winner has only six points in 12 games; his slow start, combined with his lofty price tag, has most likely left him off the majority of DFS lineups.

Fellow Friday centers Nathan MacKinnon, Evgeni Malkin, Henrik Zetterberg and Jason Spezza all come cheaper on most DFS sites and have actually been producing.

However, Friday's matchup against the Oilers seems like the perfect night for Crosby's 2015-16 coming out party.

Edmonton is allowing the fifth-most goals per game in the league, and Crosby has 13 points in eight career games versus the Oilers. To top it off, the Oilers just lost their best chance of matching up one-on-one against Crosby with the injury sustained by Connor McDavid.

RW Jarome Iginla, Avalanche (vs. Rangers)

There's always the possibility Henrik Lundqvist steals the show, which will keep Colorado Avalanche players off the roster of most DFS teams. This makes Iginla a great contrarian play.

The 38-year-old Iginla is defying time, with six goals and 11 points in 13 games so far. Further helping his Friday case are his 14 goals and 10 assists in 25 career games against the Rangers.

Iginla has 31 shots on goal this year, which gives him a high floor for DFS and a good chance to return value. He also skates alongside Nathan MacKinnon, one of the most promising young players in the game today.

D Dion Phaneuf, Maple Leafs (vs. Red Wings)

For the first time since scoring 17 or more goals in three consecutive seasons, Phaneuf isn't logging the most minutes on his team. In Calgary, it was Robyn Regehr playing the shutdown role, and now with the emergence of Morgan Rielly in Leaf Land, the pressure seems to be taken off Phaneuf's shoulders.

Rielly and Matt Hunwick have been matching up against opposing first lines, while Phaneuf has settled back into his old offensive self. The 30-year-old has eight assists in 12 games as a result; look for him to find the back of the net with his big shot against head coach Mike Babcock's former team.
