Ex-Falcons RB Jamal Anderson begins 12-day sentence stemming from DUI
Former Atlanta Falcons running back Jamal Anderson is beginning a 12-day jail sentence in confinement, stemming from a September arrest for DUI, according to Alexis Stevens of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Anderson pleaded guilty to DUI and failure to maintain charges stemming from an arrest in September. The 43-year-old turned himself in on Monday.
The one-time Pro Bowler received a 24-month sentence, with 12 days to be served in confinement. Anderson will be credited with time served and his attorney, Arturo Corso, believes his client will be released by the end of the weekend.
Anderson previously pleaded guilty to a separate DUI in January 2015 and was sentenced to 12 months probation but avoided jail time.
He was also ordered to serve 40 hours of community service and completely refrain from alcohol use.
Anderson spent his entire career with the Atlanta Falcons. His best season occurred in 1998, when he rushed for 1,846 yards and 14 touchdowns, helping the Falcons reach Super Bowl XXXIII. However, the Falcons were defeated by the Denver Broncos.
The eclectic running back is most famous for his "Dirty Bird" dance, performed after scoring touchdowns.
