Titans waive Zach Mettenberger
The Tennessee Titans announced Monday that the team has waived quarterback Zach Mettenberger.
Mettenberger, a sixth-round pick in 2014, was thought to be a candidate for trade following the arrival of Marcus Mariota as the No. 2 overall pick last year.
Discussions for such a deal didn't appear to have any sort of traction at any point since, however, and the Titans simply opted to cut ties by way of an outright release.
Mettenberger's time with the Titans comes to an end after a two-year stretch in which he saw action in 14 games, throwing for 2,347 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions.
Having flashed some ability as a pocket passer over 10 starts, he'll presumably be quick to catch on with a team willing to bring him along behind a veteran starter.
The Titans, meanwhile, now move forward with Matt Cassel as the primary backup to Mariota.
