Chargers' Johnson to undergo knee surgery after reportedly tearing meniscus
San Diego Chargers wide receiver Stevie Johnson will undergo knee surgery in the coming days, head coach Mike McCoy confirmed Monday.
While McCoy didn't specify the injury, a source told Michael Silver of NFL Network that Johnson suffered a torn meniscus in his right knee.
McCoy said the length of his absence will be determined in surgery, as the severity of the injury is discovered.
"We'll have a better idea how long he'll be out after that procedure takes place," McCoy said.
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport compared Johnson's injury to that of Jacksonville Jaguars rookie Jalen Ramsey, who underwent surgery for a small meniscus tear in May, but was able to return for the start of training camp in late July.
Johnson was helped off the practice field Sunday after landing awkwardly on a routine catch.
If Johnson is sidelined for an extended period of time, the Chargers will be forced to rely more heavily on the duo of Keenan Allen and Travis Benjamin.
