Report: Edelman's injury not considered serious after initial exams
Early indications are that Julian Edelman avoided any sort of substantial setback at Tuesday's practice.
Concerns quickly arose when the New England Patriots' wide receiver was forced to the sidelines just two days after making his long-awaited return to practice, but the injury isn't believed to be serious following initial exams, reports Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.
New England hasn't shared an official update on Edelman's status, and it may be unrealistic to expect the club to do so at any point in the near future.
The early reports are certainly promising, though, given that Edelman had appeared to be favoring his lower left leg in frustration.
Not only did surgery on his left foot force him to miss the last seven games of the 2015 regular season, but a second procedure he underwent in the offseason led to an absence that extended through the first week of camp.
Look for the Patriots to proceed with caution over the coming weeks and to outline Edelman's workload with a focus on having him at full strength for Week 1.
The 30-year-old enters the 2016 campaign once again serving as a top passing-game target alongside star tight end Rob Gronkowski.
