Rams cut Deon Long for bringing woman to training camp dorm
The Los Angeles Rams' move to release second-year wide receiver Deon Long at the beginning of training camp this year came and went without much buzz.
But as the football world found out in Tuesday's season premier of HBO's "Hard Knocks," Long's departure actually resulted from violating a team rule that prohibits visitors in dorms.
"What part did you not understand?" Fisher asked Long, according to ESPN. "Sorry, but this is our world, man. We have rules and we have to abide by them. I thought I made myself really clear."
With reference to the clear focus on avoiding another season of mediocrity, Fisher addressed Long's release in a team meeting thereafter.
"I'm not f-----g going 7-9 or 8-8 or 9-7... we have too much talent here for that," he said on the popular HBO series. "We had some 7-9 b------t this morning and we can't have that. Deon is gone. That is 7-9 b------t and we don't need it."
Long, an undrafted free agent in 2015, joined the Rams' practice squad late last season. He landed an opportunity with the Philadelphia Eagles just days after receiving his release.
