Eric Decker's 2016 season appears to be nearing an early end.
The New York Jets officially placed the veteran wide receiver on injured reserve Wednesday, and the expectation is that he'll undergo a season-ending surgery to repair his partially torn rotator cuff, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
Decker first sustained the injury in a Sept. 15 win over the Buffalo Bills before seemingly doing additional damage during a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs the following week.
The injured reserve designation would give him the opportunity to return after at least eight weeks on the sidelines, but that will presumably only become an option in the event that he avoids surgery.
Quincy Enunwa steps in as the No. 2 target alongside Brandon Marshall in Decker's absence, and Robby Anderson will continue to see work in three-receiver sets.
