Philadelphia Eagles guard Brandon Brooks has now missed a pair of games this season due to illness, the most recent of which being Sunday's loss to the Washington Redskins.
The cause for the developing pattern was at first unclear, but the veteran lineman recently discovered that the issues are related to anxiety.
Brooks told reporters Wednesday that the game day sicknesses, which last 24 hours, result in him waking up with "uncontrollable vomit" and having difficulty standing, according to Marin Frank of The Delaware News Journal.
The 27-year-old attributes the anxiety not to pregame nerves, but rather an obsession with the game.
"I'm not ashamed," Brooks said, according to Reuben Frank of CSN Philadelphia. "I'm not embarrassed. It's life. I'll get through this."
Brooks is confident that the illnesses, previously thought to be the result of an ulcer, will subside with the use of medications.
A third-round pick in the 2012 draft, Brooks spent the first four years of his NFL career with the Houston Texans. Consistent production over that stretch landed him a five-year, $40-million deal with the Eagles in free agency this past offseason.
