New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton has been fined $10,000 by the NFL for improperly entering the playing field during last Thursday's loss to the Atlanta Falcons, according to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
Payton ran onto the field late in the fourth quarter and charged toward field judge Joe Larrow, who immediately threw a flag for unsportsmanlike conduct. The penalty gave Atlanta a first down, which allowed them to kneel and seal the victory.
The head coach explained after the game that was he attempting to call a timeout, but admitted he spoke to the official "with a little more oomph" than was necessary.
