It appears the Arizona Cardinals have found their next head coach, as sources told Kent Somers of Azcentral.com the club is closing in on a deal with Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks.
The 48-year-old completed his second interview with the club last Friday and apparently left a strong enough impression. He just finished his first season as the Panthers' coordinator, leading the league's 11th-ranked scoring defense.
Wilks also interviewed for the Titans' and Giants' head coaching jobs, with Tennessee opting for Mike Vrabel and New York set to hire Pat Shurmur in the coming days.
The Cardinals planned to conduct second interviews with Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores and Eagles quarterbacks coach John DeFilippo this coming week, but appear to be moving on in those plans.
The Arizona job became available when Bruce Arians resigned at the conclusion of the 2017 season.
