U.S. Customs seizes over 100 fake Super Bowl rings
United States Customs and Border Protection officers have seized 108 fake Super Bowl rings, which would have held a value of over $1 million if authentic, according to a press release from the agency's website.
The shipment came from Hong Kong in June, full of purportedly authorized replica championship rings from past Super Bowl winners. CBP officers noticed the poor craftsmanship of the rings, leading to their seizure.
The officers worked with the NFL to confirm that the rings were fake.
When describing the work done by the officers, Casey Durst, CBP director of field operations in Baltimore, used a football analogy.
"Customs and Border Protection officers are like offensive linemen in that both are on the front line and work hard to protect something important," he said.
