Teams targeting Adonis Alexander in the NFL's supplemental draft received good news on Tuesday, as Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports the former Virginia Tech defensive back had a clean drug test.

The latest test is in addition to multiple samples that came back clean for Alexander over the last eight months. The standout defender took the tests to prove that his marijuana arrest from 2016 was a one-time incident and didn't indicate a pattern of behavior.

Alexander was slated to return to Virginia Tech for the 2018 season but was ruled academically ineligible and opted to enter the supplemental draft.

There hasn't been a player taken in the supplemental draft since the Los Angeles Rams selected Isaiah Battle in the fifth round in 2015, but Alexander and fellow defensive back Sam Beal are expected to be picked during Wednesday's event.

Notable names selected in previous supplemental drafts include Josh Gordon in 2012 and Terrelle Pryor in 2011.
