Haskins out for Redskins' finale due to high ankle sprain
Washington Redskins quarterback Dwayne Haskins suffered a high ankle sprain Sunday and won't play in his club's final tilt in 2019 against the Dallas Cowboys, head coach Bill Callahan announced, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Haskins was carted to the locker room after a play during the third quarter in Week 16 against the New York Giants. He was considered doubtful to return and ultimately missed the remainder of the contest after Redskins owner Daniel Snyder and team doctors told the signal-caller not to re-enter the game.
An MRI on Monday confirmed the 22-year-old will be sidelined for Week 17.
The first-round rookie was off to a hot start before the injury, completing 12 of 15 passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns.
Haskins has appeared in nine games for the 3-12 Redskins, starting in seven of them. Overall, he's completed 58.6% of his passes for 1,365 yards and seven touchdowns against seven interceptions.
