Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch will undergo minor surgery to fix a nerve issue in his neck and move to injured reserve, according to dallascowboys.com's Rob Phillips.

"We do anticipate a full recovery, but he’s not going to be able to play at any point this season," Cowboys head coach Jason Garrett said.

Vander Esch, who last played in Week 11, has missed the Cowboys' last five games with a neck injury. The 23-year-old has worn a neck roll since his time in Boise State but didn't miss any action as a rookie last season.

Vander Esch posted 72 tackles through nine games in 2019.
