Report: Rivera expected to be hired quickly after Week 17
Former Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera is expected to join a new team quickly after Week 17, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Rivera has reportedly emerged as a top candidate for several different clubs, including the Washington Redskins and some teams currently without head coaching vacancies.
"I'm ready to roll, and I'm ready to make a quick decision," Rivera said Friday night, according to NFL.com's Michael Silver.
The Panthers fired the 57-year-old in early December amid a 5-7 start. The two-time Coach of the Year led Carolina to one Super Bowl appearance and posted a 79-67-1 record (including playoffs) over nearly nine seasons with the team.
Former Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis is also reportedly considered a strong candidate for the Redskins' vacancy.
