Report: Bengals plan to franchise tag Green
The Cincinnati Bengals plan to franchise tag wide receiver A.J. Green, according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler and Dan Graziano.
Green, 31, signed a four-year extension with Cincinnati in 2015 and was sidelined throughout the entire 2019 campaign due to an ankle injury he suffered during training camp.
He's played in only nine games during the past two campaigns.
When healthy, however, the seven-time Pro Bowler has been one of the best pass-catchers in the NFL. He's averaged 87 receptions for 1,284 yards and nine touchdowns per 16 games in his career.
Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said in February that he's "excited to coach (Green), really for the first time this next season."
Following a 2-14 campaign, the Bengals have the first overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft.
