Report: Jags to use tag on Ngakoue, DE has no interest in long-term deal
Yannick Ngakoue's time in Jacksonville may be coming to an end.
On Monday morning, the 24-year-old pass-rusher tweeted: "I no longer have interest in signing a long-term contract in Jacksonville" after it was reported by ESPN's Adam Schefter that the team plans to use its franchise tag on him.
The franchise tag would net Ngakoue a salary of roughly $19.3 million for the 2020 season, according to Schefter, and allow the Jaguars to seek a trade, which would likely net a big return.
The Seattle Seahawks traded a 2020 third-round pick and two players to the Houston Texans for Jadeveon Clowney ahead of the 2019 season, though that deal was made with Clowney entering the final year on his contract.
Ngakoue has recorded at least eight sacks in each of his four seasons in the pros. He has 37.5 career sacks and a season-high of 12 in 2017.
He has only missed one game due to injury since 2016.
