Former NFL defensive lineman Muhammad Wilkerson was arrested earlier this week and charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia, a New Jersey State Police spokesman said, according to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network.

Wilkerson's attorney, Joshua F. McMahon, released a statement regarding the charges and said the 30-year-old plans to continue playing football.

"None of the allegations against my client are criminal in nature - instead, all of the allegations are for traffic and disorderly offenses only," McMahon said. "Muhammad, like any other citizen, is innocent until proven guilty, appreciates people from the community withholding their judgment until all the facts are revealed, and looks forward to his day in court.

"Until then, Mo' is going to continue working incredibly hard to get back out on the playing field doing what he loves and is grateful for the support of the NFL everywhere."

Wilkerson was also arrested for drunk driving in June 2019.

The one-time Pro Bowler last played in the NFL in 2018 for the Green Bay Packers. Wilkerson was selected by the New York Jets in the 2011 draft and played seven seasons for the club. He amassed 44.5 career sacks.
