Bears' Cohen: 'I even left some money on the plate' for Robinson extension

Negotiations can sometimes be viewed as a coldhearted affair as teams and players try to squeeze every dollar out of one another. That may not apply to Chicago Bears running back Tarik Cohen, who claims he made a financial sacrifice for a teammate's benefit.

Cohen and the Bears recently agreed to a three-year extension worth up to $18.25 million. With the team also dealing with Allen Robinson's contract status, Cohen says he chose to leave money aside in hopes his receiver gets paid his worth.

"Regardless of whether I got mine or not, it’s definitely time for him to get his. I even left some money on the plate. I took less so he could get more, so to say. I would definitely love to see my boy get extended. It means a lot to the team," Cohen said, according to Chicago Sun Times' Jason Lieser.

Robinson - who is in the final season of a three-year, $42-million deal - was reportedly frustrated over his contract but squashed all rumors of a possible trade.

"My heart and spirit has never wavered as far as the city of Chicago and playing for this organization," Robinson said last Wednesday, according to ESPN's Field Yates.

Bears head coach Matt Nagy also expressed belief that his team would eventually find common ground with Robinson.

"Our players all realize the history we have here in regards to taking care of guys. He's confident that we want him to be here," Nagy told reporters last Wednesday, per team reporter Larry Mayer.

Robinson is in the midst of his third year with the Bears and has recorded over 2,000 receiving yards during his tenure with the club. The 27-year-old has been Mitch Trubisky's go-to receiver so far this season, registering eight receptions for 107 yards.
