Potential 1st-round QB Lance inconsistent in probable only 2020 game
In what will likely be Trey Lance's only appearance this year, the North Dakota State quarterback provided some exciting moments but certainly wasn't flawless.
Lance, who's projected to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft, struggled to get things going in the passing game during the Bison's 39-28 victory against Central Arkansas on Saturday. He completed 15 of his 30 pass attempts for 149 yards and two touchdowns against one interception. It was the first pick he's thrown in college.
However, the dual-threat quarterback put up strong numbers on the ground, rushing for 143 yards and two scores on 15 carries.
North Dakota State agreed to face Central Arkansas after postponing its fall football season in August due to the coronavirus pandemic. The school won't play again until the spring campaign begins in February.
Scouts from more than 20 NFL teams were expected to be in attendance Saturday, according to Jordan Reid of the Draft Network.
Lance, who has yet to declare for the upcoming draft, completed 66.9% of his pass attempts for 2,786 yards and 28 touchdowns against zero interceptions as a redshirt freshman last year, helping the Bison finish the 2019 campaign 16-0.
Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is the only player in North Dakota State history to be drafted in the first round.
