49ers drop Patriots to 2-4 with worst home defeat of Belichick era
The San Francisco 49ers handed the New England Patriots a historic 33-6 home loss on Sunday.
The Patriots were limited to just 241 total yards and 17 first downs and committed four turnovers. New England never entered the opposing red zone in the game and the 49ers held the team to just 4.9 yards per play overall.
The 27-point defeat is now New England's worst home loss of the Bill Belichick era and the head coach's second-largest overall defeat with the squad.
"We're just not performing at a good level right now in any area," Belichick said postgame. "We just got to get back to work and keep working and find a way to play better than we played tonight and coach better than we coached tonight. So really there's not much else to say about it."
The Patriots have now suffered three straight losses for the first time since 2002 - their 286 consecutive games without a three-game losing streak is the longest span in NFL history.
The loss to San Francisco drops the Patriots to 2-4 this season, putting them more than two games behind the top of the division for the first time since 2000. The Buffalo Bills currently lead the AFC East at 5-2.
