The NFL suspended Chicago Bears wide receiver Javon Wims two games without pay for punching New Orleans Saints cornerback Chauncey Gardner-Johnson on Sunday.

Wims was ejected from the game as a result of throwing two punches.

Wims told team officials that Gardner-Johnson spit on him and also ripped out his mouthpiece, according to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Gardner-Johnson denied performing such actions.

"It ain't got nothing to do with me. If he's acting out, that's on him. It wasn't no incident. We won the game. I mean, everybody, it's a lot of he said, he said. Ain't nothing happened. Nobody got spit on," Gardner-Johnson said, according to ESPN's Mike Triplett.

Wims is set to miss the Bears' Week 9 game against the Tennessee Titans and the following contest against the Minnesota Vikings. He could then rejoin the team in Week 11, which is its bye week.

The wide receiver will, however, appeal his suspension, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
