Takk McKinley calls Falcons clowns for not trading him at deadline
Atlanta Falcons pass-rusher Takkarist McKinley isn't impressed with the club's decision to hold on to him at this year's trade deadline.
McKinley says he requested a trade the past two seasons, and the Falcons declined offers for him. The pass-rusher thinks Atlanta should have accepted the proposals and used his sack numbers to back up his argument.
The former first-round pick generated trade buzz coming into the week, with other teams reportedly believing he'd be moved before Tuesday's trade deadline.
The Falcons were reportedly looking for a fourth-round pick in return for McKinley but didn't receive any offers matching their asking price, according to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo.
Head coach Raheem Morris stepped in after McKinley voiced his displeasure, stating the currently injured pass-rusher will be held accountable for his actions, per NFL Network's Mike Giardi. Morris also detailed what the plan of action may be for McKinley's future with the team.
“As soon as we get an opportunity to talk to him about those things and how he’s handling that situation, that will be the first and foremost thing you handle first,” Morris said, per AJC's D. Orlando Ledbetter. "Then you figure out about getting him healthy as far as his groin and then you figure out if he’s even going to be on the team. If that’s even possible at this point.”
McKinley has recorded 17.5 sacks since starting his career in 2017, but he's struggled to get after the quarterback in recent years and has just 4.5 sacks since 2019.
