Cardinals' Murray files application to trademark 'Hail Murray'

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray has applied to trademark "Hail Murray," the viral term alluding to his Hail Mary touchdown to wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins against the Buffalo Bills in Week 10, according to Josh Weinfuss of ESPN.

The application is currently "awaiting examination," according to the United States Patent and Trademark Office website, Weinfuss adds.

Murray plans to use the trademark for multiple purposes, including apparel, entertainment services, and personal appearances by a professional athlete.

"The 'Hail Murray' deal, that's just a coincidence," Murray said Tuesday about the phrase. "That's never happened to me before, so that fact that it happened just fits the name I guess."

The 23-year-old has also filed a trademark application for "Magic Murray."

Murray has taken the NFL by storm since being drafted first overall in 2019. The reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year has led the Cardinals to a 6-4 record this season while completing over 68% of his pass attempts for 19 touchdowns against eight interceptions. The Oklahoma product also rushed for 619 yards and 10 scores.
