Mahomes won't put himself on Brady's level: He's a 'global star'

Two of the NFL's top quarterbacks will go head to head Sunday as Patrick Mahomes duels with Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Tom Brady.

Mahomes has taken the league by storm in recent years, while Brady is arguably the most accomplished passer in NFL history. But the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback still isn't ready to put himself on equal footing with Brady.

"He's someone that's a global star," Mahomes said, according to ESPN's Adam Teicher. "For me, I just try to be myself and go out there every single day and put in the work and try to win football games. All that other stuff kind of comes with it."

The 25-year-old has earned one championship ring while also adding regular season and Super Bowl MVP accolades. Brady has won six Super Bowls, and he's bested the Chiefs quarterback in two of their previous three meetings, including a playoff victory.

Sunday will be the first matchup between the two since Brady departed the New England Patriots in the offseason. The Chiefs passer is still expecting a tough battle.

"I don't think it's going to feel very much different. It's a still a very good football team that's playing really good football and winning a lot of football games. So we know it's going to be a great challenge for us and we're excited for it," Mahomes added.

The Buccaneers are 7-4 in Brady's first season under center with the club. The veteran has posted a 95.0 passer rating with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Mahomes, meanwhile, is putting together another MVP-caliber campaign, leading the Chiefs to a 9-1 record while throwing 27 touchdowns to just two interceptions.
