Broncos' Fangio disappointed that QBs 'put us in that position'

Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio is upset that his quarterbacks' neglect of COVID-19 protocols left the team without a signal-caller in Sunday's 31-3 drubbing by the New Orleans Saints.

"I was disappointed on several levels, that our QBs put us in that position, that our QBs put the league in that position. We count on them to be the leaders of our team, the leaders of our offense, and those guys made a mistake," Fangio said after the game, according to The Athletic's Lindsay Jones.

The Broncos didn't have the services of Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, or Blake Bortles after they were deemed high-risk contacts to Jeff Driskel, who tested positive for COVID-19 on Thursday. The trio didn't wear masks when around Driskel.

Lock apologized earlier Sunday, while Fangio also took personal responsibility for his actions leading to the slip-up.

"I haven't done a good enough job of selling the protocols to them when they're on their own," Fangio added. "That's on me."

With just a day's notice, the Broncos were forced to use practice squad receiver Kendall Hinton at quarterback against the Saints. Hinton finished with more interceptions (two) than completions (one) as New Orleans stifled Denver easily.

Fangio said he hopes to get Lock and the other quarterbacks back Tuesday, according to Mike Klis of 9News.
