Report: 49ers signing Josh Rosen off Bucs' practice squad
The San Francisco 49ers are signing quarterback Josh Rosen off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' practice squad and he'll be available for Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Rosen was released by the Miami Dolphins in September and then signed with the Buccaneers prior to the start of the regular season.
The move comes hours after head coach Kyle Shanahan announced that quarterback Nick Mullens' elbow injury may require surgery. Veteran signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo, who started for the 49ers in Week 1, has battled injuries all season long and hasn't played since Week 8.
San Francisco's depth chart at quarterback also features C.J. Beathard, who's likely to start against the Cardinals. The team has Josh Johnson on its practice squad, but he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Tuesday.
Rosen's last NFL start dates back to October 2019 with the Miami Dolphins.
Overall, the 2018 10th overall pick has made 20 appearances in the league (16 starts) for the Arizona Cardinals and Dolphins. He's completed 54.8% of his pass attempts for 2,845 yards and 12 touchdowns against 19 interceptions while posting a 3-13 record.
