Report: Bills' Daboll emerges as front-runner for Chargers' HC job

Buffalo Bills offensive coordinator Brian Daboll has surfaced as the favorite to land the Los Angeles Chargers' head coaching job, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.

The Chargers would have to wait to make the move official as they wouldn't be able to officially meet or hire Daboll until the Bills' postseason run concludes.

Daboll's work with the Bills' offense has garnered much praise throughout the 2020 season. His offense ranked second in points scored and yardage. The 45-year-old has also overseen the development of Josh Allen, who's enjoyed a breakout campaign. The quarterback has thrown for over 4,500 yards with 37 passing touchdowns this season.

A move to Los Angeles would allow Daboll to work with another promising passer in Justin Herbert. The young signal-caller has shattered numerous rookie records throughout an impressive year. No rookie in NFL history has completed more passes or thrown more touchdowns.

The Bills coordinator has long-standing ties to the Chargers' upper management. Daboll has known general manager Tom Telesco since high school when they played on the same football team, Schefter adds.

Daboll would replace Anthony Lynn, whom the Chargers fired after consecutive losing seasons.
