Mayfield: Browns are 'going to be back' after postseason exit
The Cleveland Browns ended an 18-year playoff drought this season and Baker Mayfield is confident the team won't have to wait as long for another appearance after a heartbreaking 22-17 loss to the defending Super Bowl champions.
In their first postseason run since 2002, the Browns managed to defeat the Pittsburgh Steelers on the road during Wild Card Weekend and battled the Kansas City Chiefs until the final whistle.
"We're setting a new standard here. We're going to be back," Mayfield said following the contest, according to Scott Petrak of The Chronicle-Telegram.
"We've come a long way since I got here, but we're not done yet. That's the best part," Mayfield added.
Mayfield is part of an impressive turnaround since the Browns finished 1-31 in the two seasons prior to the 2018 first overall pick's arrival. While Mayfield has transformed the offense, Myles Garrett, drafted with the first pick in 2017, has worked similar wonders on the defense.
"I like our odds next year because we have a lot of guys that are young and we can keep on getting better," Garrett said, according to Nate Ulrich of The Beacon Journal.
Mayfield, 25, is coming off arguably his best showing as a pro, setting a personal best in passer rating (95.9) while also throwing a career-low eight interceptions.
The passer also held his own in the postseason, finishing with four touchdowns against one interception.
