Mathieu after clash with Brady: I always 'showed him nothing but respect'
Kansas City Chiefs defensive back Tyrann Mathieu explained his side of what led to a fiery exchange with Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady during Super Bowl LV on Sunday.
Mathieu and Brady were shown exchanging remarks throughout the contest.
Brady targeted Mathieu several times in coverage. Mathieu appeared to have intercepted the signal-caller before the play was nullified due to a penalty. The defensive back was also covering Antonio Brown on his 1-yard touchdown grab.
The 28-year-old defender didn't elaborate on the confrontation postgame.
"Listen, Tom Brady's a great quarterback. I never really saw that side of Tom Brady, to be honest. But whatever. No comment. It's over with. I'm done with it," Mathieu said, according to Myles Simmons of Pro Football Talk.
The Chiefs couldn't stop Brady during his pursuit of a seventh Super Bowl victory, falling 31-9. The veteran threw three touchdown passes to zero interceptions while finishing with a 128.8 passer rating.
