Fields ready to handle pressure as Bears QB: 'I'm built for this'

First-round draft pick Justin Fields believes he's equipped to handle the pressure that comes with being the quarterback for the Chicago Bears.

"I'm made for this. I'm built for this. It's nothing new to me," Fields said, according to NBC Sports' Adam Hoge.

He added: "Just like you said, I've been kind of in the spotlight since high school."

The Bears drafted Fields after trading up to the No. 11 selection. He joins a franchise that's still looking for its first quarterback to eclipse 4,000 passing yards in a season.

Chicago is set to take it slow with Fields, as it plans to enter the season with Andy Dalton as the starting quarterback. The Ohio State product said he's going to do his best to win the job.

"I think everybody on our team should be striving for a starting job and if you're not, then there's no reason for you to be here. So, of course, I'm going to do everything that I can to get that starting job," Fields said, according to Grant Gordon of NFL.com.

The young signal-caller adds that his role for 2021 is ultimately up to head coach Matt Nagy but that he is comfortable with the team's approach to his development.

Fields goes to Chicago after a productive collegiate career with the Buckeyes. In two years at the school, he threw for 63 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
