Jaguars' Etienne to wear No. 1
Jacksonville Jaguars running back Travis Etienne will be among the rookie players to take advantage of the NFL's relaxed jersey number rules.
The Jaguars announced Saturday that Etienne will wear No. 1. The former Clemson standout, who was picked 25th overall in this year's draft, wore No. 9 in college.
As previously announced, first overall pick Trevor Lawrence will keep the No. 16 he wore during his tenure with the Tigers.
The NFL decided this offseason to allow wide receivers, running backs, tight ends, linebackers, and defensive backs to wear single-digit numbers. Prior to the change, only quarterbacks, punters, and kickers could do so.
Etienne is set to join a backfield that already includes 2020 breakout star James Robinson, who became just the third undrafted free agent to top 1,000 rushing yards as a rookie.
Etienne racked up 6,107 scrimmage yards and 78 total touchdowns in four seasons at Clemson.
