Report: Cardinals' Chandler Jones requested trade this offseason
Star pass-rusher Chandler Jones has been unhappy with his current contract, leading him to request a trade from the Arizona Cardinals during the offseason, sources told ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.
The Cardinals don't want to trade the three-time Pro Bowler and expect him to report for training camp, Fowler adds.
The 31-year-old, who's been a key piece on Arizona's defense since joining the team in 2016, only has one season left on a five-year, $82.5-million extension he signed in 2017. Jones is set to make $15.5 million this campaign.
Jones is coming off an injury-plagued season in which he played only five games, amassing just 11 tackles and one sack in 2020.
The two-time first-team All-Pro had recorded double-digit sacks every year between 2016-19, including 19 sacks in 2019 and a league-high 17 in 2017. Jones also led the NFL with eight forced fumbles two years ago.
The 2012 first-round pick played his first four seasons with the New England Patriots before being traded to the Cardinals.
Jones is the second veteran linebacker to request a trade from Arizona this offseason. Jordan Hicks was reportedly granted permission to seek a move in May. Both players skipped mandatory minicamp last month.
