RGIII joining ESPN as analyst
Robert Griffin III has signed a multi-year deal with ESPN to serve as a college football and NFL analyst, the network announced Thursday.
The longtime NFL quarterback will call one college football game per week on ESPN/ABC and also contribute to the network's coverage of the College Football Playoff and Super Bowl, among other events.
“Knowing how much the game of football helps shape lives, and understanding the aspects of the commitment it entails, is why I am thrilled to have the opportunity to join ESPN for both college and NFL programming," Griffin said. "I look forward to being around the players, coaches, and fans while providing unique insight to bring the game to life for the viewers."
Griffin could still return to the playing field as his contract has an out should an NFL opportunity arise, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports.
The 31-year-old spent the last three seasons with the Baltimore Ravens in a backup role. Griffin made two starts with the club, one coming in the 2019 season finale and another after Lamar Jackson landed on the COVID-19 list last season.
The Baylor product was once a highly touted prospect and was selected second overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by Washington. Griffin won Offensive Rookie of the Year during his first NFL season after throwing for 20 touchdowns against five interceptions.
In addition to the Ravens and Washington, Griffin has also spent time with the Cleveland Browns. He owns a career record of 16-26.
