Raiders' Carr confident about future: 'I feel like I can play another 15 years'
Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr believes he can play at a high level for many years to come and could even have an NFL career as long as Tom Brady's.
"I feel like I can play another 15 years, without a doubt," Carr said Wednesday, according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. "Nothing's hurting. It's the middle of camp, and I feel great. I feel strong, I feel fast, I feel explosive."
Carr is heading into his eighth NFL season in 2021. The 30-year-old's coming off one of his best individual campaigns after completing 67.3% of his passes for 4,103 yards and 27 touchdowns against nine interceptions.
"I feel like I'm 20," he said. "I honestly believe that our generation, the way we can take care of our bodies with football, I think 30 is the new 20.
"I honestly feel stronger, faster, better than I first did when I got to the NFL. ... And that comes with more knowledge on how to train, how to eat, how to take care of your body."
Carr has made 110 starts since entering the NFL in 2014, missing just two regular-season games during that span. His most significant injury dates back to the end of the 2016 season when a fractured fibula sidelined him in Week 17 and for the wild-card loss to the Houston Texans.
"I remember people ahead of me talking about Year 8 like, 'Yeah, I'm miserable,' and they can barely walk out of bed. I'm blessed, man. I don't have those problems. And I've had broken bones. But the way they rehab and stuff nowadays, I feel great," said Carr.
Brady turned 44 last week after spending his 21st pro campaign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The legendary passer, who signed an extension this offseason to keep him in Tampa Bay for at least two more years, has long made it known that his ultimate goal is playing until age 45.
Bucs general manager Jason Litch has said he'd keep Brady until age 50, but the signal-caller responded by saying that, even for him, playing until 50 is a long time.
