Jaguars release Tebow
Tim Tebow's comeback attempt has come to an end.
The Jacksonville Jaguars released the 34-year-old on Tuesday, the club announced Tuesday.
Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer called the decision tough, but necessary.
"We knew that was an uphill battle for Tim," Meyer said, according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport. "Players loved him. Locker room loved him. But it was the right thing."
Tebow bid farewell and thanked the organization for the opportunity on Twitter.
Tebow, a former quarterback, attempted to revive his NFL career as a tight end under Meyer this offseason. The duo previously had a lot of success in college at Florida, with Tebow winning a Heisman and two national titles.
Tebow's lone appearance with the Jaguars came during Saturday's preseason contest against the Cleveland Browns. He failed to record a reception and generated just one target.
The Denver Broncos drafted Tebow in the first round in 2010. He led the Broncos to a playoff victory during the 2011 campaign before being traded to the New York Jets that offseason. He bounced around rosters until 2015, but his last NFL regular-season appearance came in 2012. Tebow then pursued a baseball career and spent time in the New York Mets' minor-league system. He retired from baseball in 2021.
